How to save at fashion & beauty stores

Beauty stores run their biggest events twice a year: Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty in March and September, and Sephora's Savings Event for Beauty Insider members in spring and fall. Outside those weeks, the best savings come from loyalty points and free gifts with purchase rather than codes.

Clothing follows the seasons: summer styles are marked down from July, winter styles from January, and most stores add an extra percentage off the sale section during holiday weekends. Sign-up codes for new customers are common and usually take 10 to 20% off the first order. Denim brands such as Levi's run sitewide sales several times a year, so a full-price pair is rarely the best deal. Check the return window before buying on sale, as some stores shorten it for clearance items.
